As far I as I can tell, we're currently using Japanese names for human characters and English names for Duel Monsters. For example, we have things like Dark Magician Girl (JP: Black Magician Girl), Winda Priestess of Gusto (JP: ガスタの巫女 ウィンダ, Gasuta no Miko Winda), Lyna the Light Charmer (JP: 光霊使いライナ, Koureitsukai Raina), etc. So we're basically in the same situation with Yu-Gi-Oh! that we were in with Pokemon. Although judging by list of Yuu-Gi-Ou characters, Yu-Gi-Oh! seems to have fewer human characters and fewer EN/JP name differences, so maybe it's less of a problem.

I think there may be some exceptions to the above. For example, I recently had trouble finding the duel monster called Slifer the Sky Dragon (EN), which is tagged osiris_the_sky_dragon (JP).

It seems that Duel Monstes, GX and some of 5Ds and Zexal characters have alternate names for english version. Most characters from 5Ds and ZEXAL, and the entire cast of ARC-V, VRAINS (and probably SEVENS too, it's going air on the West eventually) have unified japanese names, so they don't need any change.

Personally, I'm okay with this logic. Yu-Gi-Oh! copyrights and products (including cards) with English names, while characters maintain japanese names, even the franchise itself is going like this currently (cards are released in English, characters maintain original names). Also wanted to note, the Yu-Gi-Oh! Wiki always use the original japanese names to refer to manga version of these characters, even when its about their appearance in the Dark Side of Dimensions film as it takes place in manga continuity.

Yeah. If everyone else agrees too, I will later proceed to request a BUR to rename the copyright tags and also to fix the mess with the Yu-Gi-Oh Tag Force tags.

About the Tag Force games mess, the yuu-gi-ou_tag_force and tag_force are duplicate/redundant tags that should be renamed to a unified yu-gi-oh!_tag_force tag. The yuu-gi-ou_gx_tag_force is a subseries of this game series. (For the record, this game series have 3 GX games, 3 5Ds games and 1 ARC-V game)

Update: added Season 0 alias to the Toei anime per @thelieutenant 's commentary, it is an alternate popular name for the anime to differentiate from the others.

I would still be interested in aliasing the _(season_0) to _(toei). The wiki page even mentions how its more popularly known as Season 0. The phrase "season 0" on its own is distinct enough that the Toei series is the first thing that comes up when googling it.

So, is there any other objection to the BUR? Because the next step would be the qualifiers; the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise is constantly getting new characters through the anime and cards released. The current qualifier is "yuu-gi-ou", and if I'm not wrong, there are more than 40 characters tags with this qualifier that would need to be renamed as well.

To add on there's also 2 characters with "duel_monster", one with "yuu_gi_ou" and a bunch with "yuu-gi-ou_5d's", "yuu-gi-ou_duel_links" and other spinoff series titles as qualifiers

Yeah, that's true. The norm should be every character/card with "(yu-gi-oh!)" as qualifier, but some few cases will need to have a series specific qualifier if there are two or more character with same name. For example, emma (yuu-gi-ou duel links) will need to maintain the Duel Links qualifier because there are other Emma's that could be in danbooru in the future, like the Emma from ARC-V, Emma from Tag Force games and also Emma Bessho from VRAINS. For this specific case, the qualifier should be "(yu-gi-oh! duel links)".

I changed most of the larger tags from renames to aliases.

• ghost_girl_(yuu-gi-ou_vrains), ambiguous to the Ghost Girl/Yokai Girl series of monsters

Ray does have a last name, Akaba. Shouldn't her character tag be akaba_ray then?

You're right. I have corrected it the BUR, her japanese name is read as Akaba_Rei according to the character's page in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Wiki.
