A standardized tag for hat-less characters?

Posted under General

It seems the following tags have been used for describing characters who normally wear a hat, but are seen without one: hatless, hat_removed, and no_hat.

I think we should have a single standardized tag to describe this. Or, if one already exists (and I just haven't been able to find it), then they should be consolidated with the proper aliases.

Thoughts?

Incidentally, I had hoodless Kumoi_Ichirin as hatless, once. However, since a hood isn't really a hat, that's what I eventually came up with, although she's the only character I can think of that it applies to at the moment.

I ask because it's sort of related, but is there a better term that can be used? If not, can we also alias hoodless to no_hood for consistency while we're at it?

Yes. Hadn't requested it before because of the recent slowbooru issues.

I can't think of a good guideline about when to use no_hat on posts tagged hat_removed however.
So far I tend to use them combined only when the hat was voluntarily removed, and hat_removed alone when it was done forcefully or by accident.
Cases like post #554931 or post #611146 where the hat is really too close of the character leave me puzzled about adding no_hat as well.

The line is quite blurry.
If it's the character then no_hat can apply everywhere where the character has nothing on their head.
If it's the costume then no_hat excludes hat_removed, nudes, smiwsuits, and all kinds of alternate_costume scenarios.

Done.

The former is kinda useless, I feel. There may be borderline cases but I certainly wouldn't put no_hat on post #652858. Basically, there have to be some reason to believe they'd normally be wearing a hat in the image.

These exceptional absence tags need to be used with expectation in mind. The expectation of a hat based on costume should trump the expectation of a hat based on a character (and their default costume).

Put another way if you wouldn't expect a character to wear a hat given what they are wearing in the image, then exceptional absence tags (like no_hat) shouldn't apply.

Speaking only of Touhou, from what I've seen characters keep their hat a lot more often than not even when nude, and to the point it's kind of common knowledge (you know, hats = people jokes and all). Reasonable expectations become hats everywhere regardless of the situation.
But, it's true that given this context, characters who have lost their hat are most likely not in their normal outfit.

... Honestly, the more I think about it, the more complicated it gets. I think I'll give my vote to costumes just because it means less work.

It will probably need some additional rules over time though, because of cases like Kirisame_Marisa kiss where artists purposedly cut the hat off of her outfit so it doesn't get in the way.
