More than once have I been pondering about this point of howto:comment:
Do not post "funny" dialogues. Do not post comments with lines the characters in the picture are supposedly saying. There's nothing wrong with funny or witty comments, but those are neither.
At least if this rule is interpreted strictly, I have broken against it sometimes.
It often happens that a good illustration has a very strong influence on me, immediately inspiring a mini-fanfic in my head. When that happens, I very much feel like posting "lines the characters in the picture are supposedly saying", but my main goal is not to be "funny or witty". What I am trying to do is share my interpretation of the picture in a concise way, possibly encouraging others to present theirs or to review mine. (Not like I have been very good at it, but neither have I received negative feedback; see under post #731732 & post #677175).
(EDIT: Wait, under post #677175 it is as much joking around with other members as commenting the pic. My bad.)
Please let me know if I should just keep such ideas to myself.
Also, I may have posted "funny" lines or silly one-liners when I see a connection with a meme (see at least under post #756331). In those cases, I have been interested in whether others might see the same connection. At worst, mentioning a meme may lead to a series of meaningless one-liners; at best, it may lead to fruitful cross-cultural discussions (see under post #889365, where I have not participated).
