In Memory Of pool - add individual's name?

Posted under General

pool #1318 is for "Images dedicated to artists, voice actors, and directors who have passed away.", most recently used for images commemorating the work of Kawakami Tomoko.

We add the names of people for things like seiyuu connections, so should we be tagging these images with the name of the individual being remembered?

Edit: Looks like some of the images already do. At any rate my vote is in favor of adding the names.

Any potential confusion regarding the connection would become clear fairly quickly since they are in a specific pool dedicated to the passing of folks.

So for what it is worth I vote for adding the names of those that have passed on.

Dunno if we should really be adding tags for people who aren't actually in the image..

It's common practice for the seiyuu_connection tag to also add the seiyuu's name when tagging (whether the person appears in the image or not) and for good reason. I want to find all images referencing a particular voice actor when I'm searching their tag.

Since that's the case, I went through each image and tagged the honored person, as well as updated their related wikis. If the pool is to have a list of honored people so far, I found Michael Jackson, Gouri Daisuke, Ishikawa Ken, Usui Yoshito, Kon Satoshi, Kawakami Tomoko, Akinari Matsuno and Ichikawa Osamu. I might've missed a couple.

I have another suggestion; the image should be specifically a memorial image rather than just a typical piece of fanart. Any artwork before the artist/seiyuu/director's passing shouldn't count.

One more would be Tanonaka Isamu, who is honored jointly with Gouri Daisuke in post #606123.

It's meta-information, sure, but in some cases that's legitimate. Not every image of Athena from here until the end of the world is going to get tagged kawakami_tomoko, and certainly no images from before her death would. But when it's done right after her death in a flood of such images completely out of nowhere, it's pretty clear. Especially since the artists usually leave textual evidence on their sites/pixiv.

Certainly there's a little bit of ambiguity in where to stop but I don't think that's a serious issue.

If I was looking for only posts that showed Kawakami Tomoko

Sure... but that's almost never going to happen.

On the contrary, I'll almost certainly want to find homages that depict the person in question, like some of the Kon Satoshi tributes did.

I think the unlikelier scenario is people wanting to find posts like post #936579 and post #934603 based on whether or not the artist dedicated their image to the voice actress. If they do they can either browse the pool or search by date ranges.

It appears to work now because none of the tags have a lot of posts, but you could easily end up with 10 or more pages where only a couple had relevancy past meta-information.

Any image that has the seiyuu him/herself should have the seiyuu tag, so they should be easy to filter out using that tag with the seiyuu's name.

Which leaves writers, directors, illustrators and other miscellany.

There's similar noise in the "real person" name tags outside this particular pool. Don't you have any beef about those?

We could start a tag for them. For instance, we do have creator_connection for connections based on those three types you mention specifically there, so maybe we could have a creator tag too (after qualifying the Ragnarok Online images), for when Miyazaki, Kon, ZUN, or whoever else is actually depicted in an image.

I don't like this idea. There is a big difference between "art in homage to someone" (general), "art of someone" (character) and "art created by someone" (artist). If a tag is set as an artist tag, then it should only be used on images created by that artist; if it's a character tag it should be used on images where the character/person is present.

I would rather have this information provided in comments or in a qualified tag such as Kawakami Tomoko (homage).

There's some fuzziness in the usage, sure. They're mostly small tags, so it isn't practical to split them into more rigid definitions.

Still, there is usually a clear connection to the person. In this pool the difference could literally be a couple of words in the description on Pixiv. I think there is little "similar noise" in that respect.

Some of the posts in Kon Satoshi reference the event by crying or saluting, but much of the Kawakami Tomoko tag is just noise. I think the posts are easy enough to find just by having them in the pool.
