Problem with uploading from pixiv

Posted under General

post #969144 is an example of a new(?) problem.

Basically, sometimes an image will have a ? followed by a number at the end up the img url. In which case, removing that part of it causes a low quality image with a lower resolution to show up, and if you try to upload a picture with the ?digits directly from the web, you instead get the crappy version.

I tried to upload the larger version from my computer, but it gets recognized as the originally uploaded version. With that, there is no way to upload the full-size, full-res version now. So, unless this is an issue that can be resolved, people need to be cautious when c/ping img links from pixiv. If there is a ?digits on the end, save it to your computer and upload from there, unless someone more knowledgeable than I can figure out an alternative.

Are you sure about this? If I'm not mistaken, Danbooru uses MD5 checksums to detect duplicates, which means what you're describing is pretty much impossible.

Did you put the pixiv URL in the form when uploading from your computer? Because then Danbooru will (afaik) retrieve the image URL and discard the uploaded data.

The MD5 of the full-size image definitely isn't on Danbooru yet, so uploading that from your computer, without a URL in the source field, should work just fine. You can later add the URL after the upload.

The "?1312556733" thing has been around for quite some time.

Like S1eth said in the comments, the "?1312556733" at the end means that the artist replaced the image with a new version on Fri Aug 05 11:05:33 2011. About a day or two after the revision, the URLs with and without the "?1312556733" will point to the same version of the image, so you had bad timing in this case.

No. Upload directly from pixiv, without removing the ?##### bit if it is there.
