I don't find breaking subscriptions as a justified excuse for not changing pool names. Considering there are no formal naming requirements for pool names, many people leave out artists and occasionally even copyright names. It's not very helpful for people who don't exactly know what they're looking for and using that to help them search.
Hopefully Danbooru 2 brings about some standardized pool naming system or something.

I agree. If people decide the names of pools should be unchangeable, I can help by ceasing my work, at the very least; and even by "reversing the damage", and whatnot. But I still see great benefit in searching for a copyright and finding actual, accurate, comprehensive results, thanks to the names.

And character tags. They would be very helpful, for pools like these:
I think I suggested tagging for pools at least a year ago (and wasn't the first for having done so). Still think it's a useful idea.
But yes, this comes back to the ordered (comic/series) || unordered (trait-based) distinction that we worked out around the same time (I think). I DO hope that concept survives (along with anonymous pools).

This was also my thought. Using the name is REALLY cumbersome, as you're forced to type it manually.

I use the pool name in my subscriptions, so that I can see at a glance what the pools in there actually are; I don't see "pool:2223" and immediately think "Touhou - Touhou Comic (Bomber Grape)". It's a simple matter of going to the pool edit page and copying the already-underscored pool name.
I've gotten burned on this before, but at least it's obvious when one of the pools in the subscription has been renamed--the subscription turns into a mirror of the post index.
I made a trac 9 months ago asking for the ability to enter post:#### but have the name displayed instead.
