3rd_party_watermark tag

Posted under Tags

Is there a real need for this tag, or would it be helpful in identifying approved posts that have third party watermarks? Granted, all of these posts would be deleted anyway since Danbooru frowns on them, so I'm not sure how this serves much purpose when the watermark tag does essentially the same thing. Attentive taggers who find such images would want to report these images in the Deletion Request forum too.

If it's agreed to be kept, then I tentatively propose the following be done:

Alias 3rd_party_watermark -> third_party_watermark
Alias third-party_watermark -> third_party_watermark
Implicate third_party_watermark -> watermark

I won't make a bulk request until an agreement is reached here.

Who put the watermark on an image is not always clear, so it seems like a bit of a useless tag when watermark already fulfills essentially the same purpose. If I'm searching for an image specifically with or without a watermark I don't really care who put it there either.

Unlike something like the artist just simply putting their web address on an image, 3rd_party_watermark is an unintended, unnecessary, disrespectful flaw that should hopefully be addressed by someone finding a watermark-less image and uploading it (like other tags like jpeg_artifacts that should be a signal to users to find a better version if they can). So there is a specific need for it in my opinion.

Like EB said, it would be helpful in identifying active, approved images that have third party watermarks, provided the image doesn't have an existing watermark-free duplicate - whether parented or not - on Danbooru yet. This also involves searching around for existing duplicates that haven't been marked as parent or children yet so we don't have a flood of the same image being uploaded. The tagger would want to be absolutely certain the third party watermarked image is indeed the only one that exists in the database.

Also, it wouldn't be necessary to tag already deleted posts; it'd be pointless and counter-intuitive. This would only be used for currently active tags to potentially function as a method of weeding out third party watermarked posts.

Please don't, the whole reason I put the number first is because it makes it appear right toward the top instead of in the middle when there are tons of general tags on the image. If it's buried and hard to see, then its no better than not really existing, particularly as its not like these stand out when you're looking through and doing image approvals.
