There is no slightest problem to write down Nina in japanese, even in katakana: ニナ
The obvious conclusion is they wrote it as ニーナ for a reason.
And the simplest yet most logical reason is because they've wanted to be read as "Niina"
If you have better explanation, then I'm listening.

Actually, ニーナ is the correct way of writing "Nina" in Japanese, not ニナ: https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/ニーナ. There are a number of characters whose name is spelled ニーナ in Japanese which is romanized Nina, such as the one from Breath of Fire, the one from Code Geass, and many more.
Did the creators of nina_(words_worth) explicitly say her name should be romanized "Niina"? If not we should go with Nina since that's a real name while Niina isn't.

I did, but I guess a single quick search wasn't good enough because it's a Finnish name.
Anyway, my point was that Niina isn't as common as Nina, so the chance of Niina being the intended romanization is lower.

I'm just being picky on how you worded it. Anyways, found this guidebook that has it written as "Nina" in English for the character.

...which is utterly stupid, my fault that I forgot how Japanese don't really care how we cope with their joyful language endeavors.
The good thing is links posted by NWF apparently solves the case. This time.
