Nuking, deprecating goddess

nuke goddess
deprecate goddess

Currently this tag is used for characters that share no common characteristics.
Aqua is often canonically tagged as goddess despite looking at most like a mage.
Scylla looks like a normal "viking" woman.
Nyx looks like a dark_elf witch of sorts.
Palutena looks like a valkyrie.
Euryale just looks like a normal girl in most of the posts.
Without canonical knowledge none of these stand out as a goddess to me.
Going by the wiki, any character that looks "holy" or has a halo or angel_wings is/can be a goddess, which to me does not seem right, because that can apply to any angel that is sufficiently "holy", or any mage that looks wise or wears fancy enough clothes.

Goddess doesn't stand out to me as any worse than tags like elf or vampire, which we still insist on keeping despite having the very same issues with canon tagging. Nor is it any more diverse than tags like monster, which apply to beings with vastly different appearances. It would be a shame if we lose the ability to search for characters with obvious divine characteristics, like post #1574346 or post #2101410 or post #2835214, just because a handful of uploaders can't be trusted to use tags properly.

The single biggest problem with goddess, as it stands, is the obsolete ultimate_madoka alias that stands in the way of using it with autocomplete.

Also, why nuke goddess while leaving god intact? It seems to me that if one tag should go, then so should the other.

nuke god
deprecate god

Alrighty then. I do agree with that.

It's got the same issue. I open it and get pics of Madoka.

You say it's no worse than things like elf or vampire, but frankly I'm getting tired of having to clean up people mass tagging Palutena and Konosuba's Aqua getting railed every other week.

And even when it does get cleaned up, what's left? Random Fate girls with halos. Does anyone who's not canon tagging use the tag? Does anyone searching use the tag?

While I agree that vampire and elf tags aren't ideal, they are definitely a step up (even if it's a tiny one) compared to goddess, purely because there's at least one or two grounded characteristics of an elf or a vampire.
An elf always has pointy ears, a vampire should always have fangs. There's not one characteristic of goddess or god that appears in a majority of posts that is unique to aforementioned tags.

The ability to search for characters with "obvious" divine characteristics won't be lost, you just will need to search for specific things.
If I search for "feathered_wings staff" I get images that are no more and no less "divine" than your first example.

If I search for "extra_arms 1girl weapon" I get plenty of women that could be goddesses of war, despite not being tagged as goddesses.

If someone wants to find a goddess, they must first know what they are looking for, because if you use this tag currently, you find generic girls with nothing "divine" about them, girls in fancy clothing or girls with staves or strange objects floating around them.

Definitely should have included nuking god, since the reasoning is the exact same as goddess, thank you for pointing that out.

I believe being able to search for god/goddess appearances are good, it's just that when named as such it leads to people tagging it by canon, a godly_apperance/divine_apperance or anything named better for either genders would've fared better than these tags. But I guess we will at least have pool #6911 as lieutenant said even these nukes pass. And for tagging an appearance like that I believe you shouldn't tag them god/goddess at all if you are having a hard time distinguishing it.
