Goddess doesn't stand out to me as any worse than tags like elf or vampire, which we still insist on keeping despite having the very same issues with canon tagging. Nor is it any more diverse than tags like monster, which apply to beings with vastly different appearances. It would be a shame if we lose the ability to search for characters with obvious divine characteristics, like post #1574346 or post #2101410 or post #2835214, just because a handful of uploaders can't be trusted to use tags properly.
The single biggest problem with goddess, as it stands, is the obsolete ultimate_madoka alias that stands in the way of using it with autocomplete.
Also, why nuke goddess while leaving god intact? It seems to me that if one tag should go, then so should the other.
While I agree that vampire and elf tags aren't ideal, they are definitely a step up (even if it's a tiny one) compared to goddess, purely because there's at least one or two grounded characteristics of an elf or a vampire.
An elf always has pointy ears, a vampire should always have fangs. There's not one characteristic of goddess or god that appears in a majority of posts that is unique to aforementioned tags.
The ability to search for characters with "obvious" divine characteristics won't be lost, you just will need to search for specific things.
If I search for "feathered_wings staff" I get images that are no more and no less "divine" than your first example.

If I search for "extra_arms 1girl weapon" I get plenty of women that could be goddesses of war, despite not being tagged as goddesses.

If someone wants to find a goddess, they must first know what they are looking for, because if you use this tag currently, you find generic girls with nothing "divine" about them, girls in fancy clothing or girls with staves or strange objects floating around them.
Definitely should have included nuking god, since the reasoning is the exact same as goddess, thank you for pointing that out.
