From what I gathered, they're used in the same way.

Most of the images under Venezia are of the series Aria/Aqua, though the city in that series is Neo-Venezia, which just means New Venice. Venezia is the name in Italian, so the only difference between tagging Venezia and Venice is Italian spelling versus English spelling.

Would Neo-Venezia require a tag of it's own? I think a simple Venice Aria search should be enough, since it's visually identical to Venice.

I don't think it would be necessary, mostly pointing out that the usage of "Venezia" for the images wouldn't be correct if we're canon tagging the city's name since it's "Neo-Venezia." If we're not canon tagging the posts, then there really is no reason to use the name "Venezia" when the English spelling is "Venice."

It seems pointless to create an alias for the local name of this specific city. There's no moskva -> moscow alias, no italia -> italy alias, etc. Danbooru generally tries to remain strictly English-language (except for fandom terminology with no satisfactory translation).

I'm making this because venezia already exists and has more than 50 posts.

TBH Aria's Venezia was pretty much identical to RL Venezia (except being on Mars), so not sure if there's any point in even trying to keep them separate.
