Is it a submachine gun or a pistol caliber carbine? There are lots of 9mm AR-15 rifles out there and they're often described as pistol caliber carbines rather than as submachine guns. I'm not sure what the line between a pistol caliber carbine and a submachine gun even is.

In other words: should this be tagged as a rifle or a submachine gun? Visually it looks the same as an AR-15 assault rifle, just with a smaller magazine.

First of all I would like to explain that in here, tag for submachine gun models do also apply for their minor, semi-auto only carbine variants. Because they are originally designed for full-auto fire before entering civilian market and most of the time, details on fire selectors are not clearly rendered.

I.e. H&K MP5K does cover the SP89 variant, CZ Scorpion Evo 3 covers both A1 and S1 variant, and so on.
So I think it's still fine to tag the aforementioned AR-15 style weapons fed with narrower, straight 9mm magazines, as the Colt 9mm SMG .
