Is there a reason we're not using male_lamia? It'd show up in the autocomplete when typing lamia, and it has no ambiguity whereas snake_boy could easily be used for monster boys/furries based off of snakes.

If an alias is going to be made, I think the alias should be from snake_boy -> lamia_boy. The former tag isn't specific enough and is often used for furries or characters with snake features. Despite the wiki specifying the tag's usage, only a little over half the images are of male lamias. Previously, the only way a user could search for male lamias was by searching monster_boy + snake_boy, and even then the results still included non-lamias.
We already have harpy_boy as a male specific tag for harpy. Having a male lamia tag is helpful for both tagging and searching. Furries and other characters can go into reptile_boy/lizardman.

I agree with Dogbooru. The current lamia/snake_boy approach is a pointless inconsistency and source of ambiguity. lamia_boy (or perhaps male_lamia) is preferable, regardless of the "canon" gender of lamias. We might keep snake_boy as an umbrella tag for males with snaky traits, analogous with wolf_boy, etc.

create alias snake_boy -> lamia_boy
Alternative (would be consistent with harpy boy)
I believe this is caused by the ancient alias of snake_girl -> lamia, which is a questionable alias I've never been able to convince those who can approve undoing it that it is indeed a questionable alias despite images like post #6413231 being tagged lamia and the hundreds of snake tail girls being unable to be tagged snake girl.
You say that it would be consistent with harpy boy, but this would be like aliasing bird boy or bird girl to harpy boy and harpy, respectively.
I also agree that aliasing snake_girl/snake_boy to lamia/lamia_boy, or vice versa, enforces a false equivalence between the specific lamia body plan and snaky traits (tails, tongues, etc.) more generally. Letting lamia/lamia_boy imply snake_girl/snake_boy does seem reasonable, though. Unless we want to limit the X_girl/boy tags to characters who are basically humanoid, but have themed ornaments?

remove alias snake_girl -> lamia
As stated above, a snake_girl isn't necessarily a lamia.

We don't tag harpies with bird girl, we don't tag centaurs with horse boy or girl, and we don't tag mermaid with fish girl.
This has been policy for years.

I'm going to approve this after some consideration because I think it's definitely possible to tell apart snake-like girls and lizard-like girls, and there's no reason for us to not want to search for those separately. Forked tongues, slit pupils and glasgow smiles are usually the best examples of this.
However, I already know it's just going to be filled with Kemono Friends by people who cannot read.
Also people need to clean up snake boy from male lamias.
