commentary_check and commentary simultaneous use

This feels counterintuitive to me, commentary (just like translated) should be used when the commentary is done and requires no more editing.

Agreed. There's also topic #12990, which is pretty old, but I can't find anything contradicting it. Also, while I couldn't find anything in the wikis directly stating that commentary and commentary request are mutually exclusive, I also did not see anything on the site saying they weren't.

@Maiden_in_Orange can you tell us where you read that the two tags can be used together?

...Oh. I had assumed the tags could be used together because I never saw anything that explicitly stated they couldn't be used together (and after looking through commentary and check commentary together to make sure it wasn't just me, it was pretty clear many others thought so too). Upon reflection, that was probably terribly naive of me to assume.

It should be noted that I am referring to check commentary, which implicates commentary request, and only in full translations do I feel it should be used with commentary. Partial commentary should never have the commentary tag in my opinion until it is completely translated. My line of logic here was "If someone had completely translated the commentary and needed it checked over, I don't see why the two tags couldn't be used." Have I misstepped at all?

Read the wikis for translated and translation request and pay attention to how they're worded. The former states to use check translation if it needs review instead of translated. The latter states that translation request should be left on if it needs to be reviewed. Together, these two statements strongly suggest that translated and translation request are mutually exclusive.

However, the commentary equivalents do not state this as clearly, so it's understandable why some users may assume they can be used together. Unbreakable's point is that it would make more sense to treat them both the same.

I tried gardening these tags in the past and would remove one or the other, but gave up because I was not certain whether the tags actually were mutually exclusive based on how the wikis were worded.

And that's pretty much what happened. You'd think I would make the logical connection that the rules regarding translated should also apply to commentary, but I didn't and so here we are now. My mistake. It would indeed make much more sense to treat commentary and check commentary as mutually exclusive now that my reasoning has been picked apart.

If the general consensus here is to treat the commentary tags like the translation tags, then I personally think the wiki should be edited to clarify this. As it stands right now, they're just confusing and will probably just resulted in threads like this one again (and more tag pollution).
