Tolkien's Legendarium alias

Posted under Tags

I'm not too well versed in Tolkien lore but from what I know, they don't actually have any canonical design and all illustrations are artist interpretations. They were originally spiritual beings rather than physical humanoid entities. Though they do end up taking form of the latter. Tolkien usually uses words like "fair" or "terrible" to describe how observers would see them.

From a brief Googling, this Reddit thread seems to be the most comprehensive compilation of descriptions used for Melkor/Morgoth: https://www.reddit.com/r/tolkienfans/comments/10hxh5z/melkors_forms_and_appearances_throughout_the_ages/

Agreed, these alternate tags are too vague to be useful. Especially Mairon.

If someone wants to make tags to distinguish their pretty boy and dark lord forms it would be better done with qualifiers. Melkor took both kinds of appearance before being named Morgoth and Sauron took both after being named Sauron so you can't really tie a name to a look.
