I would assume there's a chance that there's a type of lace-up boots that aren't cross-laced? But in practice it looks like its redundant. If someone can find an example of non-cross laced boots in -cross-laced_boots lace-up_boots (or in real life somewhere) I'd say the distinction stays warranted.

I would like to ask what is the use of the "-" in front of cross-laced_boots? I have never seen it before. Does it mean to search for posts that do not contain the tag behind it?

in theory, there are methods of lacing shoes that are not the classic criss-cross pattern, some of which have been documented on the following website: https://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/lacingmethods.htm
however, in practice, both in reality and in fiction people vastly prefer the criss-cross method. if anything, it might be more worthwhile to create tags for non-cross-laced footwear

create alias cross-laced_boots -> lace-up_boots
mass update cross-laced_footwear boots solo -shoes -sandals -> lace-up_boots -cross-laced_footwear
The only difference between cross-laced boots and lace-up boots is that some boots are straight-laced. But this distinction hardly matters when virtually all lace-up boots are cross-laced.
