From the looks of it, the tag confrontation seems to cover any kinds of image that feature two hostile party being pitted against one another, wheas faceoff and stare_down being basically two different tags for the same thing of two characters confronting each other while looking at each other's face.
Given that in actuality, "faceoff" is written with a dash or space instead, I think the tag should be renamed accordingly. Also merging "staredown" into "face-off" due to redundancy, while imply face-off to confrontation since it is a subset of one.
Why not merge all of the tags into one? Is the subtle difference between face-off and confrontation so important that it deserves a sub-tag? I'm also confused where the line should be drawn between these tags and duel, or would this be a way to pad the tag count of duel posts?
Looking at confrontation -faceoff pretty much just gives things that wouldn't be amiss when scrolling through faceoff as it is right now.
However, there are some posts that don't meet faceoff criterea that are getting drowned out by the amount of faceoff-esq posts (post #3062888, post #3777092, post #1154138). I think there probably needs to be a clearer understanding between the two or a better separation personally because it all seems a bit messy right now. The confrontation wiki also implies that both sides have to be showing hostility but confrontations can be one-sided so that probably doesn't help.
These tags are a bit weird to me. Confrontation is described as two hostile parties facing each other but so is faceoff. If you break down the wording, they're effectively being used as the same thing. I feel like these tags could be much better than that.
I like confrontation as a separate tag because you could use that tag to describe the tone and turn it into a high-information tag. post #8399695 (confronting a dragon), post #7758181 (viewer or an off-screen party chasing down the characters?), post #7759899 (they aren't facing each other but this is a very typical confrontational setup) - these to me, if I hadn't read the wikis, would be things I'd be inclined to tag as confrontation.
I also vibe with the idea of considering a faceoff a type of confrontation - it pretty much is, one character is confronting another getting ready to likely have a fight. So as far as the utility alias and implication goes, I don't have any strong objections to them.
My issue arrives at aliasing away stare down. How would I find comedic animosity like post #8820077 if we were to merge it? What about if I wanted to find really cool battle pictures like post #8832189, post #8216311, post #8114600, post #7526312 that aren't quite duels yet separately from comedic ones? Are there existing tags that I could perform a one or few-tag search on to find them reliably, or negate them? Could we fish out a better name for these tags, and do they necessarily need to be joined together?
Conceptually I agree but I can't upvote this specific BUR until some of these questions are resolved or have answers that I didn't arrive at.
