frilled_armband misuse

Frilled armband seems to have been getting misused since its inception. Of those ~900 pictures, 90% of them are using it in place of arm garter: elastic, thin, and not being worn over any other clothing. The rest is some mix of sleeve garters, frilled detached sleeves, or detached sleeves + short sleeves combos. Meanwhile, arm garter's own description muddles things with this line:

On Danbooru, arm garters usually look like frilled thigh strap but are worn like an armband

The tag should probably be gotten rid of, though I'm not sure what's the best way to go about it.

There's nothing wrong with the tag's usage. You open frilled armband and you find frilled arm bands, exactly as you'd expect.

It's danbooru's definition of armbands and arm garters that's wrong. There's nothing in the English language that implies that armbands are worn over clothing, or that arm garters are by default frilled. In fact, if you google "arm garter" the first result is Wikipedia's article on sleeve garters.

There was a previous discussion about this in topic #21076 some years ago.

Fair enough on danbooru vs IRL definitions, though the end result still looks quite messy to me.
In practice, and what I'm getting from that old discussion as well, is that there's a lot of definitional overlap and potential room for implication between arm garters, sleeve garters, armbands, frilled or otherwise. And currently at least some of these arm apparel tags are being used interchangeably at the tagger's whim.
