Consistent Standard for Fate series tagging

Posted under General

While Tohou has a consistent standard for tagging installments Fate does not, I pose for solo art the tag is for the installment the character originates from IE Medea would be Fate/Stay Night, Mordred Apocrypha ETC barring obvious exception like an outfit from another installment. For multiple characters, I would suggest their origin points unless it’s specifically art related to Grand Order. what do you guys think?

Be clearer, what do you mean? This is too vague to understand what you're getting at. You should also keep up to date on the ongoing Fate series tag cleanup if you need extra information and what you're suggesting is to go a different from route from what they're in the process of doing after discussion.

cc @Ylimegirl who's been handling Fate series chartagging.

I assume this is about copytags rather than chartags. I think the post is phrased in a confusing way but it's generally a sentiment I agree with. Currently we have a lot of Astolfo/Jack the Ripper/Frankenstein's Monster tagged with both Fate/Grand Order and Fate/Apocrypha when the characters are clearly 1) either set within the world of FGO or 2) they're in a costume first appearing in FGO, just because they "originate" from Fate/Apocrypha. And if they're in their default outfit they still also get tagged with Fate/Grand Order anyways because auto-translated tags, usually. And that's a relatively tame example; other characters who appear across multiple installments saber archer lancer goldie im looking at you in solo art get tagged with every single one they appear in just because "well they do be appearing in that game/novel/anime tho".

In a franchise with as much crossover as Fate, I personally would prefer minimizing the amount of copytags on a post and reducing it to the game where their costume originates/the context of the post. I know this is something not everyone always agrees on especially with other copyrights (forum #350435 forum #344844), but that's my take on it.

That’s what I was saying, Used “installment” as didn’t know what other term to use.
