Scalpel Aliases and Implication

BUR #41940 has been rejected.

create alias x-acto_knife -> scalpel
create alias exacto_knife -> scalpel
create alias hobby_knife -> scalpel
create implication scalpel -> knife

Different names for Scalpels, Was thinking about this when adding tags to some art of Medea painting a garage kit, I'd never call it a scalpel in that context despite it being the exact same thing, I'd either say Exacto Knife or Hobby Knife (I'm an 40K player on sabbatical, I know these things lol).

I've only ever heard the term scalpel used to reffer to the surgical tool and if you google that then basically all the results are such so I'm not so sure about this.

They’re the same thing, you just call them something different when they’re not being used for medical purposes and instead for hobbing ones, got to thinking about this after adding tag to some art of Medea building a Saber garage kit.

Leaving aside how you're, yet again, creating brand new unused tags for the sole purpose of aliasing them to something else, I dearly hope you never have surgery.

You'll learn there's a significant difference very quickly.

You can say that, but the wiki for the tag has synonymized medical scalpels with hobby knives since 2012, and probably for longer in tag use.

I think that medical scalpels and hobby knives of similar design are often indistinguishable at the level of visual detail used in most art hosted on this website, and any separation would be mostly vibes based depending on who is holding the object.

I've gone over 40 pages now into the scalpel tag, and literally the only post I've found so far where scalpel is used where hobby knife would work better is the single post that Seigfried was tagging when he got this latest Bright Idea. I think the only thing that needs to be fixed is the wiki itself.

As always, the number one rule of tagging on Danbooru is "tag what you see". Based on tag usage, people have been pretty consistent tagging the blade when used in a modeling context as hobby knife, and when used in a medical or other context as scalpel.

Which is all the more reason to reject the BUR proposed above.
