For things which come in pairs, the prevailing norm is to have a base tag which is plural and use a "single_*" tag for the exceptions where only one is present e.g. gloves, single glove and shoes, single shoe.
The opposite is in force for bracers: bracers was aliased to bracer more than twelve years ago. Briefly skimming tagged posts suggests bracers usually are paired (as opposed to bracelet which frequently are not). Most of the time when only one bracer is visible it's because only one arm is visible. There is also a single bracer tag which logically should not exist if bracer is singular.
I see no reason for bracers to be handled differently in this way.
