Format conversion parent tag

Posted under Tags

I don't see a point in this tag, since IMO the main value is for when a conversion was done because the site doesn't support the format. If support for the format is later added, one can use these individual tags to go back and replace the posts with originals. An umbrella tag doesn't really help with this.

Sometimes I wonder why you just dump a bunch of BURs into the forums like this without even considering what the purpose of these tags are or opening a discussion topic regarding them without creating a BUR.

We usually have umbrella tags for things like this. The fact that this has no umbrella tag seems like an oversight at first glance, so it's not unreasonable for someone to assume that and make a BUR without discussion. If there is a reason why we shouldn't parent them, just downvote the BUR and/or explain why like the two above you did.

Exactly why I assumed such, to add I've gotten feedback before about asking about tags without making BURs that that's what I should just do as it were.

That's the part about bringing them up for discussion first that doesn't necessarily need a BUR and to find out more information about the tags. This isn't a scenario that's exclusive to metatags where we have similar tags that don't imply each other. If someone is going to start out with a BUR, then there really needs to be a strong justification or precedent behind it. Those "usually" scenarios cover one of these two things.
