Implicating the_great_wave_off_kanagawa → nihonga

Reason: it's a classic piece of Japanese art.

Parodies and references to it may not be in nihonga style though, e.g. tagging post #597720 with nihonga seems a bit of a stretch to me.

I don't agree. The background clearly is done in the Nihonga style.

I'm not convinced about the need for an implication, though. There could just as easily be a parody of the painting not done as Nihonga.

In that case, just → fine_art_parody then. Though I'd say it is nihonga by parodying a well-known nihonga painting.

Is that really needed? There's already a problem with a similar implication for Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bee around a Pomegranate a Second Before Awakening causing post #203889 and post #250658 to be wrongly tagged as parody.

These are fringe cases, as they're not really, truly on topic danbooru material. It's not worth removing useful implications just because someone might upload offtopic material.

Hokusai's 36 Views of Fuji are all woodblock prints. I don't know that that falls inside the definition of nihonga.

They're woodblock prints which sort of define one of the recognisably Japanese styles, and that's what nihonga means.

Implicated fine_art_parody since the potential objections to nihonga seem reasonable, so it should be added manually.

A little late, but can't we have the original work appear in some other picture, framed up on a wall or something, without actually being a fine_art_parody?

Theoretically possible but I'm not sure I'd want to dump the whole artwork implication system we've put in place for something so exceptionally rare.
