I don't think an implication to checkered would really be best, as there are many images (like post #825261, post #830965, post #550885) where the cookie is such a minor part that people searching for checkered would definitely not want such images to appear.
I'm tempted to argue you can tell a checkerboard cookie from it's profile, not being able to see the checkered pattern but knowing it's a checkerboard cookie nonetheless.
