reason: I nominate the former since the sandals wiki is vague enough that geta could fall into it, but I can understand wanting to keep them separate. I obviously support this implication, however.

The latter is because sandals is a natural plural, unless I'm mistaken.

I thought about this before. If I actually cared and wanted to search for geta, I might want to separate other shoes with (a) teeth/tooth styled after geta from the real ones (which ARE sandals).
In other words, I believe their are many people who don't consider those shoes Aya wears as geta.

I disagree. They may not be the classic sandal-type geta, but just from looking at them, there's no way anyone could possibly mistake them for anything other than a weird sort of geta.

This works just fine so long as there is no geta → sandals implication.

I'm not so sure about that. If they're that weird and don't look like sandals, can we really still call them geta? Without the sandal part, like in the above post, isn't that just a shoe with a geta-ish base?

It is like a sandal strap and sandals base being the sole.
The geta has its base which is the teeth. Unless you want the tag: tengu_geta / tengu-style_geta / geta_(ha / tooth)
and leave it away from sandal
