Boy is aliased to tagme

Posted under General

I'm not sure if boy is supposed to be aliased to tagme but I found that out.

One thing that bugs me, for some reason, is the _boys* tag. I think it would be better if it was replaced with something like 2guys. I don't have a great reason for this, but guys sounds better than boys and it starts with a G like girls, so I think it just flows better.

Both boy and girl are aliased to tagme. I suppose it's an old way of "do not use this tag".

"Boy" is the male equivalent of "girl" and the most intuitive tag. Nobody ever complained about Xgirls tag being used for mature women.

There is a notable double standard between "boy" and "girl" in English, and the acceptable age range for each. Perhaps because the "boy"/"girl" pair is associated with youth, and youth is seen socially as a more positive trait for females than males.

As I've seen it used (and depending on context), male children cease to be called "boys" typically sometime in their teens, whereas females are often willing to be called "girls" into their twenties.

Not really, neither is perfect. As others mentioned, girls tends to be used in a very wide age range, while both guys and boys are fairly exclusive of each other. So neither is better than the other. In that case, might as well stick with what we have.
