Tag Wikis Discussion

Posted under General

When trying to find appropriate tags for an image, sometimes there are two or more similar tags without clear descriptions of when each one should be used. For instance, in forum #71054, somethingsomething asks about the right tag for an image and gets three possible answers. I think it's easier to have one big thread where we discuss tags that are ambiguous or unnecessary and make clear distinctions between similar tags.

So to be clear, this is what I imagine happening:
1.) Someone brings up a tag. ("What's the difference between dying message and blood writing? Dying message is almost all writing in blood, but blood writing has only one post!")
2.) We discuss how to solve the issue. ("Maybe we should eliminate blood writing and say that dying message must be with blood in its wiki." "No, let's go through dying message and tag every post that uses blood with blood writing, then say that dying message is to be used for any message, blood or not.")
3.) We come to a decision and retag and rewrite wikis accordingly. ("Okay, let's go with the latter. I'll rewrite the wikis to note the distinction.")

It doesn't have to be cases between two tags, either. If any vague tag lacks a wiki, we can discuss what it should be used for or if it should be eliminated.

I've done some of this on my own, but I feel it's better if we have more opinions so it's not just one person deciding what tag means what.

To start with, my example with dying message and blood writing.

I think these things are better left to individual threads. Threads like the pointless pools thread show that while this format is great for short, simple, and easy fixes, it's not good for any decent discussion.

What Rampardos said. Also, if memory serves well this has been brought up before and it was decided they should be kept to individual threads. Of course, that's a big part of what this forum is for anyway.
