Tag Alias: shemale -> futanari

Posted under General

Quick resurrection of discussion.

I have started re-tagging some newhalf content, where it was clearly marked shemale/transgender on Pixiv, or apparent in the image (i.e. character with breasts & penis but no vagina).

There IS a clear distinction between futanari (chicks with vagina & penis) and newhalf (MTF transgender).

Hell, even hentai sites like EH understand that.

So, just a heads-up.

The problem with that thread and all the other futa / newhalf / girl threads is that none of them come to any conclusions. They offer a lot of different views and then just kind of trickle off.

A couple of my views:

1) I definitely don't think they should be aliased; they're different sets of genitals downstairs, and that's not only a significant difference it's also gender defining.

2) I think gender is one of those things that 'tag as you see' doesn't work all that well in the first place. In the other thread it was brought up about normal images where genitals aren't shown and how one can only tag those as futanari or newhalf if one is going off of canon, and thus going against the TAYS rule. But isn't that true for MOST clothed images? Take post #1175586; it's labeled male. But why? It's not like we can see his genitals. One could say he has a "masculine face" but that's kind of stretching it, maybe if he had a beard... The only reason one would tag it male is either if the artist said the subject was male or canon says the person is male. And this happens ALL THE TIME. Why should this be any different with futas and newhalfs?

3) All that aside, I do realize the elephant in the room with all this is meta-tagging. If one were to rightfully make futanari and newhalf separate and freely used, it would bring up the whole series of 2girls, futa_on_futa, and other related meta tags that refer to gender. I.. can't say I have a solution to that part.

Regardless of what is done though I think it should be made 100% clear in the wiki posts of what the intentions of the tags are. As is, it seems the intention of newhalf is to be a subset of futanari, and is currently listed under its wiki, making it part of all futanari meta-tags. It's also made it so it's not really used. Apart from how someone so eloquently put it "Poison fans whacking".

So really either separate them as two different gender with all that implies, or just get rid of the tag and make a note in the Futanari wiki that states that it includes newhalfs explicitly, and not even as a subtag. Otherwise it's just going to be something that some people like me want to use but don't because it's unclear how it's supposed to be used at the moment.

Honestly when completely intractable debates over aliasing happen, I'm probably going to err on the side of leaving them separate and letting nature run its course. If some images end up with both tags, so be it.

Though a good definition explaining why they're considered different (even if some disagree that they are) should be in the wiki.

I don't know anything about Ixion Saga but it seems like we'd be in dangerous territory if we are tagging transgender women as boys. We already kind of do this with traps, but everyone in the newhalf tag has breasts so it seems even wronger to call them boys.

Im not a fanboy about anything relating to newhalfs or traps or futa. I just want to make sure stuff is tagged correctly as it should be.

The only reason I even brought it up was because of a character from a show during the winter season was seemingly causing tagging issues
