Utawarerumono character spellings

Posted under General

I know this is a topic that has been discussed long and hard. But it seems that our romanization standard for the names of characters from Utawarerumono is not very consistent. I propose aligning them with the spellings that Mirror-Moon used in their game translation project ( http://mirrormoon.org/projects/utawarerumono )

For the most part, our tags agree with that naming convention, with the exception of "Urutori" vs. "Urtoriy" and "Dorii" vs. "Doriy", so those are the only two tags that'd have to be mass-edited, as far as I can tell. There seemed to be a couple Karura images that were mistagged to "karla", a fire emblem character - I edited them.

What say you all?

I really don't have a strong opinion, but the issue goes back to Ainu vs Japanese romanization again and a desire to differentiate betweent the two I imagine.

i.e. (ドγƒͺγ‚£) vs (ドγƒͺγ‚€) and (γ‚¦γƒ«γƒˆγƒͺγ‚£) vs (γ‚¦γƒ«γƒˆγƒͺγ‚€),γ€€note the little 'γ‚£'.

This as before mentioned is a result of forcing Ainu phonology (which has syllable codas) onto the Japanese syllabry (which doesn't, with the exception of ン). Here "γ‚£" is standing in for a syllable final "y" glide or "j" if you want to be technical.

Again I have no strong opinion on the matter, but what we have now would keep it consistant with say "Eruruw", and remain true to the original Japanization of an Ainu-influenced name.

Yeah, exactly, these reasons are what caused the mirror-moon/soylations team to romanize the names the way they did. But my question is simply whether it'd be all right to mass-edit dorii to doriy and urutori to urtoriy respectively. :)
