Mind if I do some tag removal on Rin/Len images?

Posted under General

Found this on the vocaloid wiki :

As they were under development, Crypton had the concept of making a pair of male and female voicebanks. The first idea of the concept was twin voices of a girl and her mirror image of opposite gender, just like twins. [21]

CFM had an intention to distribute them as twins, but this was not adopted either. After seeing many works that depict their relationships differently, Crypton announced on a magazine interview that those would meet their ideal. Crypton did not decide to announce they are neither siblings nor lovers, as they did not want to tie down each user's free creative activities. [22][23]

Sounds like they're twins, but not officially announced as such so fans could pair them together however they felt like it.

Given how the current twins tag is used, and due to these two characters being visually identifiable as twins, I don't see a good reason to remove the twins tag from them.

It's best to take what that wiki says with a grain of salt - I've found that it contains a lot of poorly-written articles and misinformation, even on major topics.

If it matters, a statement that Rin and Len are not officially twins has been on their Danbooru wiki articles for a little over a year.

I do take what they say with a grain of salt, but you can't completely write it off, especially when they actually provide sources for what was written on this. Unfortunately only one of those appears to be published on the web. Using the sources at least, someone could check to see if what was typed was accurate (not that I would expect anyone to, but its at least possible to check and confirm accuracy).

Not to say that people can't be trusted, but it is hard to find trust in that, since that was added on by a member level user who registered only 2 months before adding that into the wiki and then ceased all activity 2 months later. It also seems a bit awkward that he would write in tagging policy, when he was such a new member and only has 32 tag edits to his name.

Going by Crypton as a source (Japanese), they are considered Mirror images. So yes, I actually agreed with the (03/18/2011 02:37 edit by 7356) on them not being portrayed as related officially. It is Rin that was the initial idea, while Len was an after thought, so if anything you can call him a genderswap, as male Vocaloids were viewed (still are actually) as poor selling.

The tagging on Rin/Len images are inconsistent, but if the final decision is to keep the twin tag, I can go through an add it for the rest of the images.

I've also remove the edit by 7356 to dispel bias.

I've said this before (in a thread about relationship tags no less forum #46910), but if relationship tags are only going to be used for canon relationships, and if the twins tag is going to be applied to every image with both characters in them, then the tag is completely pointless.

It doesn't tag anything in the image that the character tags don't already tell you, which is that there are characters considered twins by canon in the image.

If the tag is going to be based on what's in the image (the only form I'm in favour of), then the fact that kagamine_rin -twins kagamine_len -brother_and_sister has many posts is nothing significant and there's no problem here (unless uploaders have been tagging random images with twins just because they have rin and len in them).
