Middle finger is more of an offensive gesture; could maybe implicate profanity.
profanity seems to be used for text that contains it, not gestures.
From middle_finger wiki:
Denotes posts showing a character raising his/her middle finger, widely considered a very offensive gesture.
And judging from the posts, it's still a raised_finger.
something to consider, post #160195 , post #105544
will these fall to raised_finger?
I've cleaned the raised_finger tag. After removing 5 images that were pinky_out, 1 v, 1 two-finger_salute, 1 image that had all the fingers out with the index finger bent slightly higher than the others (I just removed the tag), and properly tagged those that weren't tagged index_finger_raised. The tag is now 100% redundant to the index_finger_raised tag, as only 6 pages appeared under a raised_finger -index_finger_raised search out of a total of 28 pages under raised_finger. This would predominately indicate that common usage of the tag is for only for raised index fingers.
I also fail to see the utility of a catch-all raised_finger tag, as mixing images of index_finger_raised, pinky_out, middle_finger, etc seems like it would just create a large fairly aimless mess of images that I'm not sure anyone would really care about. Additionally if users consider it valid to have more than one finger extended you'll end up with images of two-fingered_salute, \m/, and other tags under this tag, making it even more of a mess.

Good point, considering raised_finger implies the up direction.
I think we need a sticking_out_finger tag (unless someone comes with something better) for any single finger stuck out, regardless of orientation.
Something that could work would be the following implications:
raised_finger -> sticking_out_finger
middle_finger -> sticking_out_finger
And I've edited middle_finger wiki to say "sticking out" instead of "raised".

I guess any other catch-all tags such as sticking_out_finger is not necessary, since it's likely the majority couldn't care less about a stuck-out finger?

there are only 7 deleted and 2 active posts left and probably would cause redundancy if we are going to add index_finger_raised.
maybe:
remove implication index_finger_raised -> raised_finger
create alias index_finger_raised -> raised_finger
or
remove implication index_finger_raised -> raised_finger
remove alias finger_raised -> raised_finger
create alias raised_finger -> index_finger_raised
create alias finger_raised -> index_finger_raised
instead?
