His appearance was originally as a young man, and now that there's an anime adaptation of the part where he first shows up and a game which uses his young self as the representative one, his young appearance is likely going to be the more iconic version of the character now to people who don't know much about the series.

In addition there's a lot more art in the Joseph Joestar (young) tag than for Joseph Joestar (the one used for his old appearance), likely as a result of the above. So people searching for/drawing images of "Joseph Joestar" these days probably have the young version in mind anyway.

I don't agree with this. For the purpose of the series there's no connection between old and young joestar save for the name. They might as well be different characters. Implying one to the other will only cause a mess.

I see. I think it makes sense for at least the young Joseph be the main tag without qualifier, as is has much more posts and depicts Joseph as the protagonist of his part, rather than a supporting character for the subsequent parts.

I'm not sure about that. Old Joseph is one of the protagonists of Part 3, and he also appears in part 4. Stardust Crusaders is the longests of the parts he appears in, and he's featured very prominently in it. Also Stardust Crusaders is much more popular than Battle Tendency, which is a relatively minor part now.
