As an autist myself, I always saw her as more autistic than simpleminded, as some of her dialoge in SA shows she understands what nuclear fusion is, but is dumb on the other, more normal things.

Yes, PDD-NOS(the "I don't know either" type), was also medicated until I started an internship where being on "calming medication" started to become dangerous.

It's just that lately, there seems to be a movement of completely normal people proclaiming themselves autistic because they are introverts, or because they are geeky about something, or (the worst) because it's "trendy" thanks to TBBT or something else. Somehow, those people are one of the very few things in the world that really tick me off and thoroughly disgust me, even though I'm not autistic or anything like that myself.

It's The Big Bang Theory , wherein one of the charismatic main characters is commonly viewed to have Asperger's syndrome or autism, even though authors deny that.

Yep. It's either Autism, or Asperger. Both are incredibly popular as excuses for lazy bums. For example, KimikoMuffin claims he has Asperger.

Even stupid people can understand a concept they have practical, hands-on experience doing and plenty of experience with. Even geniuses won't understand something they don't know about. It's just a matter of how long it takes them to grasp the subject.
Of course, the whole "bird brain" thing is just a myth in this case, anyway, since crows and ravens are some of the smartest animals on the planet - even smarter than pigs and dolphins.
