The little twist is that because you can't see Ichirin's ears, they can't be inumimi'd, so they have to go onto Unzan, instead. It's only when you consider them as a single person that they are a complete... umm... dog-accessorification?

You can see the ears. They are the type of dog ears that hang down at the side of the head.
