"Faithful" or "Loyal" in Russian. Also named after the city of Verniy in the Soviet Union, now known as Almaty in Kazakhstan.
See post #1566678.
She replaces the sailor shirt shared with the rest of the Akatsuki class with a belted button-up sailor shirt and her hat is now white with red trimmings, with a hammer and sickle and star pin on it. As for her torpedo tubes, she replaces her Japanese 61 cm triple mounts with Soviet 53.3 cm quad mounts on either side. Curiously, she retains her 12.7 twin gun mount Type B to her right.
For the Pacific Saury/Mackerel Pike event, starting in 2017, she wears a arctic-pattern camouflage jacket, earmuffs and black pantyhose instead of her thighhighs. She is equipped for ice fishing, with an auger, a bucket and a fishing rod. Upon being damaged, she wears her bucket as a helmet (a likely callback to her wearing a cooking pot on her head in the anime).
Her personality is still the same, but her Russian vocabulary has slightly expanded.
Often nicknamed "Bep" (as if the cyrillic letters "Вер" were read as Latin letters), "Beppu" ("別府", same thing but as a pun to the city of the same name) or "Nuinui" ("ヌイヌイ", like Shiranui, so it's not uncommon to see the two being paired together) as her name might be difficult to pronounce for the Japanese (and most non-Russian speakers alike).
In-game, she is characterized with a lack of stock equipment (she predates Gangut's appearance by 3.5 years and Tashkent's - who actually used some of the equipment that Verniy would be equipped with - by 4.5 years, and thus such equipment were unavailable in-game when Verniy came out), a relatively low luck for her sheer longevity (she was only lucky in the way she avoided combat by being in repairs), and her high resilience compared to destroyers of her size (only Suzutsuki and Tashkent exceeds her in health, both are also significantly larger than Verniy, only Shimakaze, Yukikaze and Amatsukaze exceeds her armor but none of them can equip bulges, which Verniy can).
