About the pool: "Okay, now tell me how you really feel."

Posted under General

It seems we have a majority in favor of "Harsh Words". I don't endorse this name, but I would simply accept the decision.

Once again, I'll wait a little to see if more people have anything to say. If nothing changes, I'm going to rename the pool to "Harsh Words". One or two days should be enough time before doing that.

Does the pool name have to be so strongly indicative of its content? Since there's a pool description that details which posts should be included in the pool, I think a snappier title would be better. "You Suck" still gets across the point that someone is angry and using harsh words.

Pool names are much more important than any description because we simply can't rely on people to always read or understand them. Chances are people will form their impression of what a pool is by the pool name and the occasional image they see in it. So, even with a name that's only somewhat off, like "You suck", the pool could be derailed from its original intent to images that just contain insults.

There's no reason to go with "witty" titles over more intuitive ones. The less hassle, the better. Let the images themselves be cool or witty, let the tags and pools be effective cataloging tools.

If "You Suck" is unreliable for these reasons, then "Harsh Words" is equally unreliable. Any image with two or three harsh words could go into the pool. Even a simple "Fuck you!" (or even "You suck!") would be an exclamation with harsh words.

More accurate — and somewhat less witty — names would be "Many Harsh Words" and "Harsh Speech".

You are missing one important thing - posts with "two or three harsh words" are already included in the pool and there's nothing wrong with it, see post #412287, post #796539, post #944651, post #1009873. There's no need to try to enforce such restriction on word count or text length.

So "Many Harsh Words" and "Harsh Speech" are not in any way more accurate.

True. You're right in correcting me.

Now let me count the votes, again. Feel free to correct me, if I miss something. Interpreting comments into something so objective may actually be somewhat difficult.

According to the current results, the name should be "Harsh Words".

Harsh Words [the votes are either expressed or implied; but I think Hillside Moose's technically doesn't count as not specific enough]
> sgcdonmai (I'd prefer something simpler, like "Harsh Words".)
> MyrMindservant ("Harsh Words", and I wanted to support it)
> Shintear (I support "Harsh Words")
> jjj14 ("Harsh Words" sounds better to me.)
> Hillside Moose (Descriptive titles trump "witty" titles)
> jxh2154 (You Suck and Harsh Words are both fine. I probably like the latter a little more but the difference is negligible.)

You Suck [the votes are either expressed or implied]
> Danielx21 ("You Suck"?)
> Coconut (+1 for "You Suck.")
> Flippernino (I think a snappier title would be better. "You Suck")
> Alignn (That's true. I'd still go with the punchier name over the slightly more accurate one, but both work.)
