Wait... giant tortoise, elephants holding some massive thing on their backs... this highly reminds of Discworld aside from the fact that it isn't a disc being held up...
Yeah, just never say that within earshot of strangers irl. Discworld fans rage like an imprisoned archdemon at the mention of it. One time I made an off-hand comment to a friend on the bus and this guy raged at us so bad he got kicked off. And he was still screaming at us as the bus drove off.
Another time a woman yelled at me so much she started sobbing, and this too was in public. Seeing somebody sob and yell at the same time is pretty creepy.
I guess it's a really touchy subject. Or the fans are completely insane.

Discword fan as well. I'm of the sort that doesn't mind if you take fault with a book. Maybe some of the fans are off the wall but I hope that's a relatively low percentage that would react as you experienced. The books lampoon everything but at the same time they sort of set themselves up to be lampooned. Make humor, take humor, give humor. Let it go full cycle.
