To be fair, most 80's children's cartoons were utter cheese to begin with... I started watching Thundercats a bit when it came on Cartoon Network, and was stunned by how corny it was, and wondered how I ever got into it.
Like all the rest of us, you'll just have to admit that your nostalgia-colored glasses can't withstand the intense glare of actually looking at the things you loved as a child with the maturity you have as you get older.
And really, come on, his name is He-Man, he wears tights any time he isn't going shirtless and in a loincloth, and spends basically all his time wrestling with other burly men; If that isn't BEGGING for gay innuendo, I don't know what is.

I didn't know that band, but I have watched that He-Man vid many times and only after reading your comment it occurred to me that the song wasn't original. It just fits so well.
