Arguably she's staring at what's straight ahead of her. Just because 'we' happen to be there doesn't mean she's looking at us. It might even be a POV from another person. The point is, the fourth wall just happens to be where she is looking through. If the camera angle was perhaps 45 degrees to the right/left/ceiling/floor we wouldn't be talking about it.
