There doesn't seem to be a "back_injury" or "spinal_injury" tag here, so I'm not sure what to tag this as. Although I did manage to find the spinal_tap tag, so I guess that search was worth something.

Actually, it is only a myth that stretching before you do exercise reduce injury (in fact, it is the opposite) When you stretch beforehand, your body assumes the force that are being exerted to your body are unintentional, and actually poses a threat. What follow up next is that, as a natural defense, the body then try to harden up to prevent the fake force from causing further damage.
This hardening cause the body to be stiffer and more rigid, reducing flexibility, impeding performance and actually leads to more chance of injuries.
