I've always wondered, what causes artists to draw stuff like this? Past events that happened to them or just a fetish?

I'm not hating or trying to start something here, just curious if anyone knows.

I'm pretty sure this is one of those questions that doesn't have a answer.

Well, people watch it so it might be the whole "Supply/Demand" stuff.

I was actually thinking the same thing.. I don't understand the arousal factor id any that would promote someone to draw such images. Are there really people that find this type of work arousing? Or what exactly is the feeling required to draw and like such images?

Torture porn is a genre. Consider it a power fetish.

This sort of stuff is definitely a fetish, though I thought Danbou didn't allow stuff like this?

Usually images with guts exposed or hanging out will get chopped. Blood and bandages will usually hang around unfortunately. For me I have seen many attractive images ruined by this perversion. No I don't think of it as a fetish as much as a perversion.

    Ta-may-toe Ta-mah-toe

Once you start distinguishing fetish and perversion you start slipping down a bit of a slippery and prudent route and giving 2D things like "rights". Better to get it out of your system via non-victims then to have people actually go around cutting people up yes?

Catharsis. The release of negative pent-up emotions via the arts, such as drawings, or dramas. I consider it a pretty important thing since, yeah, it might actually keep someone from slitting someone else up in the Real Worldz.

Just remember that we are dealing with people and an outlet that for the most part has no consequences. Rational is vague what one accepts is different from person to person. I was into the guro for a while spent a good amount of time on gurochan still do. What I picked up from there is that all of the above applies there is a demand, some people get off on it, others like the idea of torture with no real victims to speak of and others believe it keeps some from going and acting there ideas out. One thing I know is that everyone has a bit of sadist in them that little bit of violent intent for those that wrong you, sure we forgive and forget most cases, but for a moment we all have that wish for ill to befall someone.
It is a fetish simply its just extreme to some and louder, by louder I mean impact the images will stay with some a lot longer whether they want it to or not. Some artist like to be loud in what ever way they can.

I believe there are other reasons not stated and there are probably more that we have not even considered
    Well thats my 2 bits

Even beyond the simulation of being in control of this scenario, this could be an expression of what it may be like to be in that situation. To conceptualize pain or severe compromise without actually suffering it. Heck, one time I wrote a (certainly technically bad) bit of...prose(?) where the narrator's every bodily function was violently active at once.

Perhaps think of it as a hypothetical, extreme extension of, say, putting the foot of the chair you're sitting in on your toes (which I prefer to do with shoes on)?

But then, I prolly have no idea what I'm babbling aboot.

    This.

In high school, this is how I handled my stress. I wont go into detail about what I drew, but I honestly believe that those drawings kept me from doing harm back to the people who gave it to me.

I just can't imagine myself being the evil person that did these things to her. Let's find a way to help her instead.

We also go through rough times... when our only outlet is through art...
