I just want to add that the face in the first panel is great.

Say what you will, Protean Greninja is still broken as hell.

In the 5 gen, the three starters were very dissapointing, in special compared to other Pokemon you encountered not much after the beginning, with Petilil/Cotonee/Sewadle (grass), Darumaka/Growlithe (fire) and Tympole/Marill/Psyduck (water).
Really, my only complain about the 5 gen is the starters being overshadowed by other better early mons...

After finding Absol early on in Pokemon X, I boxed Greninja too.

Hey, I had both Lapras and Mega Blastoise on my in-game team. Don't box your starters if you can spare a second type!

I love the Greninja face, though. He goes from all "what do you bid, my master?" to "omg nooooooooo!"

I don't even know why you would Box Greninja since its a great mix Pokemon, with good Special and physical attacks.

Generally speaking, starter pokemon have gotten more balanced/weaker/worse with each generation.

Given the new Mega evolutions, I'd say

Venusaur>Chestnaught>Torterra>Sceptile>Serperior>Meganium

Blaziken>Charizard>Infernape>Delphox>Emboar>Typhlosion

Greninja>Blastoise>Swampert>Empoleon>Feraligatr>Samurott

in terms of battle usefulness. Of course, they all serve different roles, so trying to put them in order is kind of apples and oranges. Gen II and V kind of got the shaft IMO, although Feraligatr is still a great Pokemon. And the doofy flower thing with a funny name will always be first in my heart~

I boxed my lapras instead.

I did eventually box my starter greninja though...in favor of a newly bred protean greninja that is now on my in-game team 99% of the time.
