Hey now, spoilers. But yeah, it was pretty fucked up. I didn't think Wo would be the main enemy in the show. I had always thought that honor would go to Ru or even Ta-class. What a shame.

Yorktown (Wo) survived her battle to conduct repeated raids on the Japanese during WWII after her damage during Operation MO. Yorktown survived the war, and currently is in drydock as a national monument.

Yeah, but that's assuming the whole show is basing itself on real life events and that the Abyss, Wo, actually being Yorktown.
I'm still skeptic about them trying to be historically correct. That and Wo really doesn't seem that much of a threat. If it was Re or someone else it would have been better, but I guess I'm a lucky minority that didn't suffer at the hands of Black Wo-ck.

but, she has pauldron of doom! She's definitely a threat
Now, as I have mentioned in other occasions, if this first seasons does well, I expect them to pour more money and have better combat and maybe the girls who use melee weapons, along with more focus on the abyssals rather than slice of life

I would be more happy if they do make a season two it'll be more SoL, especially with the Abyss. I love to see Abyss base beach episode, but that's just me.
I'm not that big of a fan of the fighting and CG they use. That and there isn't really any story so when they try so hard on things like, making twist and such, it just...it just feels stupid.

Actually, you're thinking of two different ships. Tbe original Yorktown was sunk in the Battle of Midway. When the US Navy learned of the loss, they took a carrier then under construction and named her Yorktown in honor of the original ship.
As a matter of fact, it was common for the USN to name newly constructed ships after ships that had recently sunk. It's a testament to America's industrial might that they were able to replace their losses, something Japan lacked.

The ship is immortal. They never sank, only returning with better equipments :P

I know that I might be the only one but, I would really love if Wo ended up surviving the war.

This. I've never been a fan of how the abyssals have been portrayed in some official works so far. I know that I can't expect them to have the same treatment as the shipgirls but seeing them enjoying a bit of their daily life or at least being portrayed in a more positive light would be amazing and even a bit heart-warming. I mean, some of the abyssal girls like Wo and Hoppou are really popular, it's a bit unfair to only portray them as enemies and nothing more.

Fubuki 4koma is probably closest to that, where they never shown to be actually fighting the Abyssal, and even RJ manage to clear Operation AL with a few piece of paper (that later backfired though)
The Historical event this act is based on, the Doolittle Raid, was done by Yorktown's two sister ships: Enterprise and Hornet. Hornet launched the Army bombers while Enterprise provided fleet cover with her fighter. It was a daring mission to send two carriers and their escorts that close to Japan. The damage wasn't all that much really, but it did wonders for morale...on both sides.
Yorktown was still busy in the southern seas dealing with the Japanese operation MO (Invasion of Port Moresby) along with USS Lexington (sunk at Coral Sea). Enterprise and Hornet were to head to join up with Yorktown at Coral Sea, but it was over before they could get back. Yorktown limped back to Hawaii for as much repairing as they could do before sending her back out to fight at Midway with her two sister ships. The badly beaten up Yorktown was torpedoed and sunk at the end of the battle by submarine I-168.
