Did I miss this quote in the anime or did it come from somewhere else? Considering the flight deck pretty much was the shield (albeit a decently ineffective early on) for carriers when under attack by aircraft, it seems a weird thing to say.

The official Fubuki 4koma. And no, even in the anime, the flight deck are not shield. They need it for landing.

I meant the real carriers. Which also needed them for landing, but didn't really have a choice.

Royal Navy carriers took care of that problem with armored flight decks.

When an American carrier was hit with a kamikaze, it was out of action for quite a while.

When a British carrier was hit with a kamikaze, they just cleaned up the wreckage and resumed operations.
