I'm confused.

15 years is about the maximum lifespan of a dog. My previous pet dog passed away two years ago, right around her 14th birthday.

It's interesting that this is in the Tragedy of Long Life pool with regards to a normal human being. That said, this is quite sad.

As a dog lover this hurts closer to home. Lost our 10 year old dog last March.
