Holy crap, stuck Sendai gives Nozumu Itoshiki a run for his money in the despair department. I can't wait to see how Yuubari reacts to this new Sendai.
Damn, the very embodiment of night battle is hoping for the night to never come..?! Give her some water or put her to sleep already.. On second thought, i'll escort Sendai to her room.. *sneak away with Sendai*
Not as amusing as I expected, but oddly logical to me all the same. I often questioned why exactly Sendai liked night battles at all, yes she was involved in several, but some only indirectly and more generally they were ones Japan lost and she was also sunk in one. She herself never did anything notable in a single one either. Honestly Jintsū had a far, far greater claim to 'night battle mania' then Sendai ever could so her behavior always struck me as odd.
Looks like this one at least was quite possibly putting on a nearly psychotic act about it though, maybe she has an inferiority complex toward her sister?

Seems more like she's forever trying to make up for her 'missed opportunities' and it's only with the strange clarity that drunkenness sometimes brings that she realizes she never will.

Either she's overcompensating or if was a mask to how her true feelings about night battles.
I really want to see Yuubari handle this version of Sendai.

Maybe the drinking made her remember how she sank at the battle of Empress Augusta Bay, when she signalled Shigure to come alongside to evacuate the crew and Shigure ignored the signal to save her own skin.
Don't worry Yasen-chan, the tables turned at Ten-Go when Yahagi (under the command of the same captain as Shigure at Empress Augusta Bay) flashed the same signal and all the destroyers ignored her

That's a gross over simplification, she was being targeted by 48 rapid firing six inch radar directed guns at the time and was enveloped in shell fire. It was roughly equivalent to someone being wounded in the middle of a machine gun swept field, there's brave and then there's stupid and at some point attempting to help casualties crosses over into the later category. Oh and beyond the four cruisers pummeling the shit out of her an enemy destroy division was closing in to attack as well, stopping (or even slowing) to try and assist would have been an incredibly dumb thing to do in the middle of such a confused action with the formation clearly under highly accurate gun fire.
It wasn't like Shirgue ran away instantly instead of helping either, she tried to join with others ships to make an attack on the approaching enemy, but with Sendai's own wild maneuvering (which almost had her run Shirgue down herself) having lead to a collision between the two other ships in the formation as they were steering to avoid her that basically put them out of action it very quickly became apparent discretion was the better part of valor. This was the right call as at that point it was basically old ass Shirgue alone against an entire division of rapidly approaching enemy DDs any one of which outweighed her by about 500 tons. In the event said DD ended up basically circling around Sendai's bleeding corpse and pelting it with shells for awhile while thinking they where engaging like two or three different ships at various times.
I know all that, I was just exaggerating for effect -- that's how they fit all these historical situations into the doujin mangas in the first place, like with sakazaki freddy's 'thing' about Aoba in his earlier kancolle work
Perhaps night time always brings back bad memories and night battles is really her excuse to not being alone and having idle time to end up thinking up such memories again. Things like coming back exhausted allows her to fall asleep without leaving time for her mind to wander to past events that would prevent her from falling asleep otherwise.
I do as well. ;_; As my first CL and my first kai ni'd ship, I've always been weirdly attached to Sendai's more...eccentric nature. Seeing her depressed hurts my heart...
