    Same reason nobody mourns the death of a stormtrooper. USN had ludicrously more to go around. Hell, at Ten-Go they had as many carriers actually launching planes as there were destroyers in Itou's Fleet, and if you add the reserves in, the total number of carriers there alone outnumbered all of Itou's Fleet.

    ... Put that way, I'm not surprised the ultranationalists can convince themselves that Imperial Japan were underdogs fighting a monolithic foe.

    The same with the Royal Navy thinking that as well. They just sent their 2 warships without air cover.
