If a Melusine's wings aren't strong enough to support it in flight then why did it even evolve in that manner in the first place? Lamia are based off snakes which originally don't have wings so there must have been some sort of environmental reason that the Melusine evolved the way they did.

Even if they can't use them to fully fly, they could still allow them to move faster and be useful for swimming.

Given the limited information I assumed it had something to do with their coastal lifestyle, with the first guess maybe being used for swimming. Could maybe also be used for warming the blood by having a larger area when sunbathing, although having thin areas of tissue like that I think are more commonly used for cooling, at least in warm blooded animals.

i feel like these end cards should be in a pool. the only times i see stuff in sequence parented to the first page are really short comics, and even then there's a lot of pools that are only 4 items long or so. but i don't really know Danbooru's general preference on that, so i'll leave it be.

They were made by the mangaka so yes, these sub-species end cards are canon until said otherwise.

A few of them have even started to show up in the manga, like the eel mermaids and the oni.

    Lamia subspecies
Echidna Because more of their bodies are covered by scales compared to lamias, echidnas are closer to lizardfolk. Their name means "viper women", and true to their name, they possess poisonous fangs inside their mouths. Their venom is a type of hemorrhagin and must be treated with caution. Their snake-like lower bodies are covered in a unique pattern reminiscent of vipers.
Lamia Demihuman species with the lower body of a snake. Like Snakes, Lamias regularly shed their skin and are cold-blooded. Their personalities are often persistent, conjuring images of snakes. They are carnivores with a special preference for eggs. The tip of their tail is an erogenous zone. Because their species consists only of females, they require human males to reproduce. They tend to constrict their lovers when their tail tips are rubbed or grabbed.
Medusa Also known as gorgons. A subspecies of lamia with snakes for hair. In mythology, their gaze can turn creatures into stone, but in actuality they possess no such ability. However, their gaze is very keen, and their glare makes living creatures unable to move, as though they've been turned to stone. In reality they have poor eyesight and only appear to be glaring despite their lack of ill will. Because their hair is made of snakes, they are troubled by the fact that they can't change their hairstyle.
Melusine A lamia subspecies with dragon wings on its back. They share characteristics with dragonewts. They are more similar to sea snakes than terrestrial snakes and prefer to live by the shore. Their wings aren't strong enough to lift their long lower bodies, making them useless.
