During Operation Ten-Go, Yamato carried more than 150 (obsolete) AA guns which couldn't be fired when the 46cm (18.1 inch) main guns were being used, which certainly didn't helped against the American air superiority.

So it was an intimidation attempt then? You see more guns you are more prone to hesitation... although it didn't work that way in this case.

So by building the biggest battleship class that ever sailed, they doomed themselves because they were the biggest

As I know it, the reason Yamato is often considered a failure ship is because she was so powerful that the Japanese navy couldn't afford to equip her for battle when they actually needed her. A lot of Japan's supplies and vigor for the start of the war came from the capture of its surrounding Asian provinces. When America slapped the embargoes on Japan and started pushing them back, Japan quickly ran out supplies and money, and they couldn't really afford to operate the hugely-powerful Navy they had built in order to make an effective counter-assault.
I think that the whole hotel legacy is kind of a mark of Japan's superfluous approach to the war, and how they made a lot of extravagant battle plans and extremely powerful weapons that were technologically obsolete or weren't tactically viable due to their high cost on the small nation's resource pools.
