I've just recently learned a bit about Shigure's history (Courtesy of IChaseGaming) and I'm actually quite surprised how much she and Reiji share in common.
We always talked about how Shigure was an incredibly lucky ship but the way I see it now, she made her own luck. One of her captains, Tameichi Hara, was an absolute slave-driver and, as a result, did not get along well with his crew. At least, he didn't get along with his crew until the Battle of Vella Gulf, after which, they realized his genius for what it was. In numerous cases after that, he utilized genius tactics that were often thought up on the spot and until he was transferred to an instructor's position in late 1943, not a single life was lost on the Shigure.
A slave-driving, brilliant captain that cares about the lives of his troops and had the luck of the devil, who else fits that description?
