Well yeah, but why? What does it mean? Is it censoring? The artist's signature?

I'm going with a signature. When you see it full size, you can see that it's layered above her hand. As to why he/she chose that particular spot, I have absolutely no clue.

It's where most people are going to see it, at least. And cropping it off wouldn't be as easy.

Seems like it is indeed the case—other works by that artist also feature this marker. Strange that he would choose the ending of his name, rather than beginning, but I suppose it's not that uncommon.
